Why was Volta’s experiment so
important? Because he created
a brand new kind of electricity.
Today we
call
it
current
electricity.
What’s so special about
current electricity? It can be
produced anytime, anywhere.
And that’s not all. People
can control how, when, and
where it flows. That’s pretty
handy.
By 1900, companies in the United States were selling more
than 2 million batteries every year. Today, that number has
skyrocketed to 3 billion. It’s hard to imagine what our lives
would be like without batteries.
