usually between one and four millimeters in diameter. Most violent attacks
with blunt objects result in medium-impact spatter stains. Swipe patterns,
as shown in Image 9, can also reveal information about the crime.
Large quantities of blood are a common aspect of low-impact spatters.
Low-impact spatters are relatively common at crime scenes, since they can
be created by large quantities of blood falling onto the ground or floor.
In general, as long as the force behind the spatter is moving at less than
five feet (1.5 meters) per second, it results in low-impact spatter. These
stains are commonly greater than four millimeters in diameter because the
energy behind the impact is not high enough to break the surface tension
