What do ticks have in common
with Count Dracula? They vant
to suck your blood. Ticks cling
to tall grass and grab onto any
victim that passes by. They
usually feed on the blood of birds
and mammals. But they aren’t too
picky. They’ll also dine on reptiles
and amphibians.
Mites are closely related to ticks,
but they aren’t bloodsuckers. Many
mites live in water or soil. They eat plants or rotting material.
But some mites live on animals—including humans. They eat
skin cells and body juices.
You probably have itty-bitty mites living in your eyelashes
right now. But you need a microscope to see them. They might
be crawling around on your nose, forehead, cheeks, or chin!
And you could have itch mites living in your armpits or
between your fingers. Yuck!
