Everyone knows rocks are hard. But guess what?Wind and water
can be even tougher.
Crashing ocean waves can slowly
erode
, or wear away, rock.
So can fast-flowing rivers and whipping winds.
Rocks can break when plant roots grow into cracks. Acid rain
and snow can make rocks weak. Over time, the rocks slowly
crumble into tiny bits. In places with cold nights and hot days,
rocks freeze and thaw, freeze and thaw. This
weathering
can
make rocks shatter.
See? Rocks aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
