1968—Willard Christopher Smith Jr. is born September 25 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1973—Begins attending Our Lady of Lourdes school.
1980—Starts rapping as a hobby.
1982—Enters Overbrook High School.
1984—Meets future partner Jeff Townes.
1987—As DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Smith and Townes
release their first song, “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble,”
and release their first album, Rock the House.
1988—Their breakthrough album, He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper, is
released.
1989—Smith and Townes win a Grammy Award for best rap
performance; third album, And In This Corner. . . , is released.
1990–1996—Smith stars in television situation comedy The
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
1991—The album Homebase is released.
1992—Smith and Townes win a Grammy for best rap song,
“Summertime”; Smith has his first movie role, in Where the
Day Takes You; marries Sheree Zampino on May 9; son
Willard Christopher Smith III (Trey) is born in December.
1993—Appears in movies Made in America and Six Degrees of
Separation; fifth albumwith DJ Jazzy Jeff, Code Red, is released.
1995—Costars in Bad Boys; is divorced from Sherry Zampino.
1996—Costars in Independence Day .
