These insects might look delicate. But they’re true survivors.
In fact, they’ve lived on Earth for more than 300 million years.
And they’re some of the fiercest predators around.
When one of these hungry hunters spots an insect, tadpole,
or small fish, it grabs the prey with its legs and drags the
helpless victim into its mouth—all while still flying!
At rest, an adult dragonfly holds its wings out straight.
But a damselfly folds its wings above its back. In flight, these
insects have all the right moves. They spend their days
snatching mosquitoes
and other insects out of
the air. Then they
devour the prey with
strong, chewing
mouthparts.
