Mercury,Venus, Earth, and Mars
are all rocky planets. But Jupiter
is made mostly of gases. So are
Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus.
All four outer planets are called
gas giants
.
But Jupiter is the biggest of
all. In fact, it’s bigger than all
the other planets put together.
Jupiter is surrounded by four rings. And it has at least sixty-
three moons. That’s more than any other planet!
Jupiter’s best-known feature is the Great Red Spot. It’s the
largest storm in the solar system. And it’s been raging for at
least 180 years.
Jupiter has the shortest days in the solar system. They are
just ten hours long. But a year on Jupiter is ten times longer
than a year on Earth.
