happens when magma gets stuck in Earth’s crust?
That’s right. It cools slowly and forms igneous rock full of
crystals.
But what about the surrounding rock? How does the burst of
fiery magma affect the rocky crust all around it? As the magma
cools, it gives off heat. Lots and lots of heat. Enough heat to bake
nearby rock and change
the minerals inside. The
result is a new kind of
rock—a
metamorphic
rock
